# Show variant metafield content

Display variant-specific metafields when a shopper selects a variant on the product page. This uses Alpine's `x-show` to conditionally render content for the active variant and can be added via a `Custom liquid` section.

{% hint style="info" %}
Replace `custom.short_description` with your metafield namespace and key. Ensure the metafield exists on each variant you want to display.
{% endhint %}

1. In the theme editor, add a `Custom liquid` section to your product template.
2. Paste the snippet below and adjust the markup/metafield as needed.
3. Save and preview. Switch variants to see content update.

```liquid
{% for variant in product.variants %}
  <div x-show="current_variant_id == {{ variant.id }}">
    {{ variant.title }}
    {% if variant.metafields.custom.short_description %}
      – {{ variant.metafields.custom.short_description }}
    {% endif %}
  </div>
{% endfor %}
```

Notes:

* `current_variant_id` is managed by the theme's Alpine state and updates on selection.
* Duplicate the inner block to output multiple metafields.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.brickspacelab.com/paper/advanced-customizations/adding-custom-liquid/popular-custom-liquid/show-variant-metafield-content.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
